Daz and Maya

I downloaded Maya last night and started messing with it this morning. I wanted to share some of my findings and a few things I tried with you guys. First I exported The Mech Inforcer from Daz first and then imported it to Maya. I added some lighting and a camera. Shot (1) is one spot light, one point light, and one area light, all white lights. No camera adjustments and I hadn't quite figured out the render engine yet.

Shot (2) is the same lighting but the camera is imoprted from Daz as well, I backed out the camera and added a floor section from the Iron Fort.

Shot (3) I added one of the signs from Urban Future and shrunk it down to see what the textures looked liks, added 2 directional lights and removed the other lights but messed up some of the render settings and couldn't even see it.

Shot (4) I really went through the render settings and figured out the ray-traced shadows, 3D production quality anti-aliasing and used most of the high settings that I understood.

Shot (5) I changed one of the distant lights to light yellow, left the other one white, and removed the shadow from it so I only had one shadow on the wall.

Shot (6) I changed one of the distant lights to simulate the sky and added some clouds and dust (not much).

Shot (7) I removed the clouds and dust from the light (but you can still see some of the blue in the front of the gatling gun and on most of the edges.

Shot (8) I moved the camera in and turned on the depth but got the focal distance wrong.

Shot (9) I moved the camera and still didn't realize my focal distance was wrong but got the mech's right shoulder and the sign in focus.

Shot (10) is the same shot just moved the camera in some more (still the same focal distance).

Shot (11) I changed the focal distance and got the gun tips pretty close. I think I am going to continue learning on Maya for my renders and scenes. Thanks for checking it out!

I figured out how to enable the mental ray rendering plug-in today in Maya. It took me most of the day to import all of the pieces of The Fort and he Shuttlestar from Daz and put them together in Maya. I added 2 cameras and turned on the indirect lighting physical sun and sky. I left the settings completely default for the physical sun and sky (there are tons of settings). I would say that the render settings for the mental ray in these shots are low/med-med as far as I can tell (there a sooooo many settings). The ray-traced shadows and ambient occlusion are on. After figuring out a few more issues I set up this shot so I could see how the position of the light would affect to the scene. It is amazing. The sun basically starts in shot 1 from behind you in the right fourth of the image and ends in shot 5 just to the ledt of the tower. Maya is awesome so far. The interface is layed out so well and Daz products are working perfectly as far as I can tell.

I like what you've done mxstylie.

I have often thought about trying to put Daz models into Maya.

    Looks good

Messing with some city blocks yesterday. I won't bore you with all 10 shots of this same scene. I am working on some clouds now with the 3D fluid containers. Hope to have some decent clouds later today. We'll see.
