Does anyone have any clue how tall they are?

Talking about all the Gen4 models, Genesis (the basic end) and Gen 5

Ok...where is V4 and the rest of them then...that's just Genesis basic, nothing else

I believe that V4 is 5'10 1/2 inches tall, if that is any help

Guess I have to figure the heights on my own and post them up for people.

Any ways of figure a character height inside daz?

    the unites are in centimeters.

Here's how you measure a figure. Create: New Primitive: Cylinder. Options, select Centimeters and 1 CM.

You upscale the Y value till it matches the height of the figure. Whatever that height is, is the height of the figure in centimeters. 1 inch = 2.54 cm

It was all done years ago, but you can use this from ShareCG : http://www.sharecg.com/v/41322/

There is a list of most DAZ characters here : http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=75673&view=next

Look for the post by Marcus Didius Falco near the top.

JimmyC, here's the problem with that. If you're doing a character portrait and you have a specific height you want that character to be, you are, in fact, better off just using a primitive to set that figure's height. It's precise and fast and does not require you have any extra pariphinalia....

I'll go with the primavtive model way.

At least when I get the basic height, I can take away 2.54 cm to get a height guide going

Thanks wancow, the height of characters is a thing I have never needed to know really, and I am a little baffled that people want to know.

LS Lowry nust have had a hell of a time chasing all the people in his paintings to find out what size they were :-)

It's a simple thing, really. If I'm making a portrait of Michael Crichton, who stood six foot nine, standing next to Liz Taylor, who stood 5'2"... it would be a little strange to have them both standing 5'10.

I was told the squares on the floor grid in Daz are 1mx1m. So if you lie your figure flat on the ground (x rotate -90) you can get an estimate..just make sure the feet are touching the line:)

I made a height chart for myself, looks kind of like a police line-up chart. I only put a mark every 6 inches, which for me was good enough. I could modify this with more inch marks and share it on ShareCG, if anyone is interested???? Maybe even do a cm version for UK folks.

I just load it up as a prop and my figure loads perfectly in place. Then, choose the Front camera and you get a really good guide. Also helpful for viewing multiple characters, as you can see in my pic.

A3 and H3 are both 5' 5 1/2 inches tall or 166.65 cm. If you check out the link I gave, you will find them all there

Note that Dr Geep's scale will not give the right answer in DS - it's set for his own 1 Poser unit is 100 inches scale, I think, or for the Poser official scale of 1 unit is 8.6 feet while DS uses 1 unit equals eight feet (96 inches).

They were lucky, and found an abandoned airfield within reach.

Here's something I did awhile back

I noticed when I loaded the M3 shape for Genesis, the figure scale increased to 102.5%. Which made me wonder what 100% represented. I figured I knew how tall Mike 3 was (6’-1”), but I decided to check this. I loaded M3 into Genesis and created a 72”cube. M3 for Genesis appears to be 72” tall. Using this information I used math figure out how tall 100% would be.

    72"/102.5% = .70244"/1%
    .70244" x 100% = 70.244" (5'-10 1/4")

Using this I created a chart listing heights of all the legacy clones.

    Genesis - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Basic Female - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Julie - 90.8% (5’-4”)
    Reby Sky - 90.3% (5'-3 1/2")
    Stephanie 3 - 91.8% (5'-4 1/2")
    Stephanie 4 - 88.3% (5'-2")
    Stephanie 5 - 88.0% (5'-2")
    Victoria 3 - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Victoria 4 - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Victoria 5 - 95.0% (5"-6 3/4")
    Victoria 5 SM - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Aiko 3 - 92.8% (5'-5 1/4")
    Aiko 4 - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Aiko 5 - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Girl 4 - 100% (5'-10 1/4" Scales 100% but because of size of head closer to 72")
    Basic Male - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Justin - 94.5% (5”-6 1/4")
    Freak 3 - 103.0% (6'-0 1/2")
    Freak 4 - 120.0% (7'-0 1/2")
    Freak 5 - 120.0% (7'-0 1/2")
    David 3 - 100% (5'-10 1/4")
    Michael 3 - 102.5% (6'-0")
    Michael 4 - 103.1% (6'-0 1/2")
    Michael 5 - 103.6% (6'-0 3/4")
    Michael 5 SH - 108.6% (6'-4 1/4")
    Hiro 3 - 100% (5'-10 1/4" Scales 100% but because of size of head closer to 71")
    Hiro 4 - 100% (5'-10 1/4" Scales 100% but because of size of head closer to 71 1/2")
    Hiro 5 - 113% (6'-7 3/8" Scales 113% but because of size of head closer to 78 1/2")
    Basic Child - 54.0% (3'-2") (Child dial set to 50%) - 77.0% (4'-6")

((Size of figure desired in inches / 70.25) x 100 = percent to use)

    8'-0" = 136.7%
    7'-0" = 119.6%
    6'-6" = 111.0%
    6'-3" = 106.8%
    6'-0" = 102.5%
    5'-10" = 100% - Genesis Base Figure
    5'-8" = 96.8%
    5'-6" = 93.8%
    5'-4" = 91.1%
    5'-2" = 88.3%
    5'-0" = 85.4%
    4'-10" = 82.6%
    4'-8" = 79.7%
    4'-6" = 77.0%
    4'-4" = 74.0%
    4'-2" = 71.2%
    4'-0" = 68.3%
    3'-10" = 65.5%
    3'-8" = 62.6%
    3'-6" = 59.8%
    3'-4" = 56.9%
    3'-2" = 54.0%
    3'-0" = 51.5%

Strictly speaking it was mixing Metric and Imperial in the same system and messing up the data conversion, but why anyone would even contemplate using Imperial on a space project is beyond me.

Converting Gallons to Litres once caused a jet liner to run out of fuel at 38,000 feet.

They were lucky, and found an abandoned airfield within reach.

'The Gimli Glider', that actually needed a whole bunch of things happening together to let the mistake get through without being caught, but happen they did. Pilots are still messing up departure weight calculations, but at least I haven't heard of an Imperial to Metric conversion error in a while.

If you go back and dig in the archives of the old board, there are several extended discussions of size and scaling issues. Ultimately what matters is that everyone producing stuff uses a single (or at least compatible) system so that stuff we instinctively know the right size for looks the right size when seen in the same frame as something as messily variable in size as a human.

Same here, never really understood the need for knowing a default height, especially since you can resize any aspect of a figure. I have done lots of scenes with models of different sizes and proportions that were compared to each other and never needed an actual height chart for this.

Interesting information from everyone, thanks! I can understand wanting to know precise heights, but also for purposes of speed and efficiency I often "eyeball it" and guess. :)

I do it the easy way using a script called "size of" which is a one click to give the dimensions of any object. Go to http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=42323&highlight;= which is an older listing of scripts.

    Nice one, thank you.

Anyone downloading this, don't be put off by the age of the script, it works perfectly in DS4.5 as well.
