Was saving this artist for top of page status rather than hide him among a massive post.

I came across Koji Tamaki when looking at FujiFilm X100 videos on YouTube some time ago. Someone uploaded a collage of B&W photography and accompanied it with some Koji tracks. Haven't bought any of his CD's yet, but I will so so just as soon as I've narrowed down the right albums.

Anyway, I like this stuff for when "loud" isn't wanted - I like it as relaxation music. A lot of his work has a sort of Jazz feel about it, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what genre some of it falls under. As well as the tracks themselves, what I really like about him is his vocal, seems really "pleasant" if you know what I mean. It's not often I listen to male Japanese singers, they're usually female, so I think it's fair to say there's a special quality to his vocal.

Here's some Koji Tamaki for y'all:

I used Carrara in doing an animation for a music video (which I did around six months ago but has just been released!):

The animation kicks in around 4:00 (but I recommend watching it all!)

Congrat's on the vid, Phil, it reminded me of Moment Of Peace due to the theme and cloaks etc.

PS: Kettu will like this one, I'd lay money on it :-P

Well it's that time of the year so I thought I'd post a track that is fitting.

It's also an analogue recording, so that means any digital fans are about to get a lesson in solidity again, flog their sub-par digital recorders, and buy a sumptuous analogue recording setup :-P

I take no responsibility for blown speaker cones, so there:

I suppose you'll only have heard this one if you happen to live in England and are older than 30.

Great tune, haunting, just like the series, although they never used to play this full uncut version on the program, it was always cut dramatically shorter when it was aired on TV. But anyway, the strings they use in this, the ones that come in at around 1:12, are my absolute favourite type of strings - ever. I just know them as "70's Strings", the sort they use on, well, stuff from the seventies - just a gorgeous sound.

    Hey Phil, great stuff :-)

I bought the DVD set a few years back, money well spent and the only problem with it is that when you've watched them all you wish there were more of them!

    Complete Set (comprises both volumes):
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hammer-House-Of-Horror-Collection/dp/B00006JNBO/

Next on my list is this set, but it's a 19 DVD mega-set with 112 episodes - so it's a bit pricey. I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit, but when it does I'll have plenty of watchable entertainment to last me a few years. Even watching two per week would give two years worth of viewing.

    Tales of the Unexpected:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tales-Of-The-Unexpected-Complete/dp/B001E6Q0IA/

There's other sets as well, such as Thriller and some others, and although I never saw the others I'm after when they were originally aired, the idea is that once I have enough of these sets, I won't have to put up with the crap they keep putting on the TV - ever again. I intend to rip the lot to a stand-alone drive and pre-schedule it with playlists so that I effectively have my own private 24/7 TV channel, if that makes any sense (and totally ad-free as an extra bonus) :-D

But yup, it's quite a sobering thought when you read the Amazon reviews of sets like these, it really drills home how bad entertainment has got. I think the problem is since technology became so affordable, any idiot can go out with a camera, produce a program, and flog it to some channel and get it broadcast. I know if I ever produce something with a camera, I'll be taking my cues from stories like these, not today's stuff.

You can be sure of that, but I'll enjoy it even more when SSD is affordable enough to make a silent drive bank ;-)

I have several music videos that incorporate animations built in DAZ Studio and Carrara that I'd be happy to post, but they're all of a political nature and last year it sounded like DAZ didn't want any potentially divisive material on their site. To any DAZ officials - would it be okay to post those here with some kind of tag or warning that these are political videos representing my viewpoint, not specifically endorsed by DAZ? (my videos deal with climate change, the new voter laws, lack of integrity in politics; abuse of anabolic steroids; and hypocrisy in religion)

    @Mosk the Scribe
I doubt they'd allow it, I wasn't even allowed to post an educational video outlining the dangerous facts about SOPA and PIPA. As they didn't allow that, I doubt you'll get permission (but who knows).

    @Ascania
For some reason your avatar looks extra beautifully evil today, very nice!
    New eye-liner?

    @Kettu
For when you get your internet sorted: It's written and performed by Chris De Burgh and seems to be some story he came up with about time in Russia. You once asked what people think of Russia, well, this is a fun take on one mans impression. He's a great songwriter who's lyrics almost always read like a real story.

Anyway, the whole song has a dark, sinister feel to it.
Love it, especially that last verse!

Fix me a drink, make it a strong one
Hey Conrad a drink, make it a long one
My hands are shaking and my feet are numb
My head is aching and the bar's going round
And I'm so down, in this foreign town

Tonight there's a band, it ain't such a bad one
Play me a song, don't make it a sad one
I can't even talk to these Russian Girls
The beer is lousy and the food is worse
And it's so damn cold, yes it's so damn cold

I know it's hard to believe but I haven't been warm for a week

Moonlight and Vodka takes me away
Midnight in Moscow is lunch-time in LA
    Oh play boys, play

    Espionage is a serious business
Well I've had enough of this serious business
That dancing girl is making eyes at me
I'm sure she's working for the KGB
In this paradise, heh, as cold as ice

Moonlight and Vodka takes me away
Midnight in Moscow is sunshine in LA
    Here I go USA

Haha, thanks =) I believe I've heard the song but never paid attention to the lyrics =) Girl working for KGB, now that's something only a foreigner could come up with - I mean, when a Russian thinks KGB, s/he thinks dudes in uniforms/smart suits, with eyes of ice and hearts of steel =) Never girls...

And the thing he got completely wrong is the beer part!

De Burgh's song "Lady in Red" is wickedly popular here, BTW.

Well that's a bit of a bummer then 'cause I've always had a thing for dangerous girls and they're often Russian or at least European!

As for the beer, your comment reminded me of a discussion that went on on the old forum, was a good laugh. I remember Allibaba was part of it, standing up for his German beer, but the problem was he was half-pissed himself while he was defending it :-D

Lady in Red is known everywhere I reckon :-)

Anyway, check out this one about God Vs The Devil, funny as hell, love the humour in it :-D
If you read while you listen it's like an audio-book story.

Chris De Burgh - Spanish Train:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnaUvPoiTfQ

There's a Spanish train that runs between Quadalquivir and Old Seville
And at dead of night the whistle blows, and people hear she's running still
And then they hush their children back to sleep, lock the doors upstairs they creep
For it is said that the souls of the dead fill that train ...

    Ten thousand deep!

Well the railwayman lay dying with his people by his side
His family were crying knelt in prayer before he died
But above his bed just awaiting for the dead was the Devil with a twinkle in his eye
Well God's not around and look what I've found ...

    This one's mine!

Just then the Lord himself appeared in a blinding flash of light
And shouted at the Devil "Get thee hence to endless night"
But the Devil just grinned and said I may have sinned but there's no need to push me around
I got him first so you can do your worst

    He's going underground!

But I think I'll give you one more chance, said the Devil with a smile
So throw away that stupid lance, it's really not your style
Joker is the name, Poker is the game, we'll play right here on this bed
And then we'll bet for the biggest stakes yet ...

    The souls of the dead!

And I said look out, Lord, he's gonna win, the sun is down and the night is riding in
That train is dead on time, many souls are on the line
    Oh Lord, he's gonna win

Well the railwayman he cut the cards, and dealt them each a hand of five
As for the Lord, he was praying hard for that train he'd have to drive
Well the Devil he had three Aces and a King, and the Lord, he was running for a straight
He had the Queen and the Knave and the Nine and Ten of Spades ...

All he needed was the eight!

And then the Lord he called for one more card, but he drew the Diamond Eight
And the Devil said to the Son of God, I believe you've got it straight?
So deal me one, for the time has come to see who'll be the king of this place
But as he spoke, from beneath his cloak, he slipped another Ace ...

Ten thousand souls was the opening bid, it soon went up to fifty nine
But the Lord didn't see what the Devil did, and he said, that suits me fine
I'll raise you high to a hundred and five and forever put an end to your sins
But the Devil let out a mighty shout ...

    My hand wins!

And I said Lord, oh Lord, you let him win
The sun is down and the night is riding in
That train is dead on time, many souls are on the line
Oh Lord, don't let him win

Well that Spanish train still runs between Quadalquivir and old Seville
And at dead of night the whistle blows and people fear she's running still

And far away in some recess, the Lord and the Devil are now playing chess
The Devil still cheats and wins more souls and as for the Lord, well, he's just doing his best

And I said Lord, oh Lord, you've got to win, the Sun is down and the night is riding in
That train is still on time, oh my soul is on the line
Oh Lord, you've got to win

The top comment on YouTube made me think I should post this in case others haven't seen it.
