Problem with Utilities/Bend tool.

I am trying to bend a object. I select the object and hit Utilities/Bend object. The universal manipulator shows up when I hit the button but disappears with only green diamond at the center. I try to move my mouse and nothing helps. Am I doing anything wrong.

You want the tool next to it on the left, the one that has Taper/Bender/Twister/Deformer. The other one is just for surfaces, volumes or cureves.
