Why does Daz release such a few Items compared to other sites?

    DAZ has fewer people making stuff.

    Not sure if it is that or if it is just that there are a couple of hundred people at rendo who do enough product volume wise for there to be all those new releases every day.

    whoa!! I wasn't trying to start a debate or a argument., I was just going by my own personal experiences. using both daz and poser.
    as I said there are pros and cons on both sides , Poser has Alyson where daz do not etc etc. so what? this was not my comment I was making.
    I did not make my comment to start this debate. because its a no win situation and will only get this thread removed or locked.. My comment was to answer why there are more venders releasing products at other sites
    Renderosity caters to a wider range of products programs poser, vue and 3dmax. etc. and Daz caters to daz & genesis. What part of this answer could not be understood? did i word it wrong? I maybe have been winded in making my comment but its pretty obvious to see it true.
    Like I said I'm not bashing Daz4 or genesis if you like it great. a lot of people do and a lot of people like poser just as well. so what? this was not my comment to this thread.

    As a User of both daz and poser products if I can't share it in my poser runtime I don't buy the products and I sorry if that upsets anyone. but i just have so much money. and i like both programs i use now. daz3a and poser I can not afford to start buying for a new library of genesis smart content that poser can not use. I think you will see most people feel that way also. that have the free version of daz4pro and paid for versions of Poser.

    I have a lot of Gen 4 as well as Aiko 3 and Sadie content (and Mavka is becoming a major player as well). To make Genesis useful with my Gen 4 and Aiko 3 runtimes requires fairly expensive outlay for the following plugins:


    GenX
    V4/M4 Body Shapes for Genesis
    A3/H3 Body Shapes for Genesis
    Texture Converter2
    Texture Converter2: V4/A4 Plugin
    Texture Converter2: M4 Plugin
    Texture Converter2: A3 Plugin


    ...as well as a 64 bit system since IMO, Studio4 in 32 bit is pretty worthless due to the extreme memory limitations it has to work under and heftier system requirements it has.


    Meanwhile PoserPro 2010 runs nicely and allows me to use advanced lighting and surface effects that would crash the render process even in Studio3A.


    At this time I have to go with what works best for me given the limitations of my system and my budget.

    with regular I mean standard and the so called different is way to primitive in my opinion, 1998 was much better regarding to the codes LOL

    I think you have the argument slightly twisted around - it isn't that you need to make Genesis useful with existing runtimes, rather that both Genesis and your existing runtimes will be useful, and that there is additionally a purely optional opportunity to make your existing runtimes usable with Genesis. I think you need to weigh how much of that combine functionality you need out of the box, because you don't have to have any of it, and, even if you want it, it certainly isn't the case that you need Texture Converter 2 and you have considerable usability even without GenX.

    DS4 on its own will give you use of your Gen 4 skins on Genesis out of the box, and autofit will give you use of most Gen 4 clothing items (normal caveat vs shoes). For earlier items and non-DAZ figures, a few may give acceptable autofits, others can be rigged if you really want them - I've done this myself on a few trial items despite never having rigged anything before. Expenditure to get to this level of functionality, zero. A brand new figure for free that can use a big chunk of your existing wardrobe and skins - what's not to like?

    Now I'd say you really want to add the Genesis Evolution Morph bundle to that on general flexibility grounds, that adds $23 to the price, but it's no different to V4 needing the V4++ morph pack, and you only need to buy it once, not for each base figure as at Gen 3 or 4.

    Add GenX ($32) to the mix and all of your Gen 4 character morphs are available for Genesis, you'll want the Gen 4 figure packs for Genesis to get them to a near 100% match with Genesis (V4/M4=$15, A4/H4/F4/G4=$18), but it's not absolutely necessary to use them - I just brought V4 Darcy over to Genesis via GenX as part of creating a specific character, and decided she was actually closer to what I wanted without the V4 morph applied rather than with it. Yes, that's adding up to a big bite of pocket money, but it isn't an essential to use Genesis, just a nice to have that lets you leverage off the combined value of Genesis and your Gen 4 characters - its one of those things that can be left for the next good sale!

    If Gen 3 is your interest, and you want to leverage your Gen 3 characters and wardrobe with Genesis, then you'll need the Gen 3 Figure packs (V3/M3/A3/H3/SP3/F3=$30), with the same arguments that applied to Gen 4 and the side note that the figure packs extend Autofit to Gen 3 clothing. Now the difference at Gen 3 is you can't use Gen 3 character skins out of the box (though autofitting a Gen 3 figure to Genesis will give you a semblance of that with some limitations), and some people claim this means buying TC2 and it's figure plugins is essential, but I disagree, I think it's possible to find a workably close Gen 4 skin for most Gen 3 characters and I certainly have no intention of buying TC2.

    You can spend the money for all the plugins you listed, but people need to understand that those are optional buys, not essential, you can use a big chunk of your existing runtimes out the box with no expenditure whatsoever. You don't need to make Genesis compatible with your existing runtimes, that is a bonus, you get Genesis's own functionality for nothing, and your existing runtimes and Gen 3 and 4 figures remain just as usable. The difference from previous new figures is that there is a way to use older generation content with Genesis, some of which comes for free, and some of which comes at a cost.

    As I've just become a DAZ PA recently (coming soon from me and Marieah: Bath Towels!) and I've been at Renderosity for around two years as a serious vendor (a little over a year as a Top Seller) here's my experience.


    Renderosity almost never rejects projects based on what they are, provided they're not directly pornographic. If it's not broken, and the renders don't completely suck, it's going to eventually be approved. They've recently tightened standards on making people actually support DAZ when they claim they do and prove it with renders, and they've gotten more particular about low-quality tiling textures, both of which I strongly approve.


    DAZ, on the other hand, doesn't look at a new submission and say "Is this something we have to reject," but rather, "Is this something we really need/want in the store?" They are much more particular about what they let people upload to begin with, and especially about its textures and artwork. The initial decision to let a new potential vendor upload something for QA is based almost entirely on the artwork you offer of the product - unlike at Rendo, where you go ahead and upload and keep trying 'til it gets approved (or resubmit if for some reason you can't meet their standards).


    This means Rendo has a lot more different products at a much more variant level of quality. Many skillful vendors will sell both places, because with good turnover you can achieve a steady small income at Renderosity, whereas at DAZ you can achieve some good chunks of income but they will be further apart.


    I also buy both places. DAZ tends to be more expensive, but there are things I can get here that I can't get anywhere else. Renderosity is often cheaper, but products bought there come with a greater risk of lower functionality (unless they're from a trusted vendor; I've never gotten a bad product from 3Dream/Mairy either place, for instance).

    ...as I previously mentioned, I tried to recreate my LeelaTeen with Genesis. Didn't work as I cannot get the breast sized dialed down to match her petite physique without the mesh distorting (and yes, I do have the Evolution Morph pack). Without the ability to use Steph or Thorne's Tommi (without the additional investment in the GenX and V4 body shapes plugins that will allow me to apply their morphs), it just is not going to happen. Most of my fae characters are Aiko3 based (also requiring character morphs by Thorne).


    About the only use I have been getting out of Genesis so far is with the Jasmin and Amy toon characters.


    If I'm just going to continue using the Gen4 models on their own as I have been, then my question is why bother moving to Studio4 at all (particularly since none of the plugins I have work with the latest release)? Why not simply go with the 64 bit version of 3.1.2.32 Advanced or Poser Pro 2012 (which also has weight mapping)?


    Basically the big "selling point" of Studio4 is Genesis. Without it, I really don't see much of an advantage as I feel the application has a "cumbersome" UI compared to it's predecessors.


    As I also mentioned, the Autofit tool has issues with stretching and distortion of detailed texture maps.
