and now following on from the last page, the raw render (first one) taken into Photo Effects 8 and a number of filters applied. Tone Adjustment. HDRI, High Pass Sharpness, Sunshine, and Glow Filters. most of the filters had the opacity lowered to dull the effect a bit.

Then using the same process as above I use the same fog and smoke effects, the exact same.

Todays Quick TIP: To point and position plane mesh light, load a plane and a Camera (turn off Headlamp if in Iray via the Parameters Pane when the camera is selected), 0 out all the camera's position parameters, rotate the plane so the normal is facing the same way as the camera (with the Translation Tool selected, the Normal is shown by the Green Y Axis Translation Arrow when the Translation Tool is in Local Coordinates Mode which can accessed via the Tool Settings Pane when the tool is selected.) In this case rotate the plane on the X axis by -90. Then parent the Plane to the Camera. Now you have a camera with a light attached for easy positioning and when you zoom the cam in and outhe plane moves with it.  Just resize the plane and the camera will stay put. You could always rename the camera and lock it in place when set up.

And this tip is not renderer specific.  You can use this same setup for any renderer usable in Studio, just by altering what you apply to the plane to make it emissive.  Use the emissive shader for the appropriate renderer.

  • Very interesting scene there. all three look good. what's really interesting to me, and I don'tknow if this was intentional or not, is that they look like a diorama using 25 mm figurines

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

yeah probably due to the camera's lens length. It wasn't intentional but cool anyway. LOL

Here is a Vue 2014 Complete render using

Now the same image except I broke the render into layers using Mask and Multipass Toolbox http://www.daz3d.com/mask-and-multipass-toolbox Making layer masks I worked from the back forward so I could add some Photoshop Fog and Smoke Brush work. Each Brush stroke had one layer each and some where set to Exclusion Layer Blend mode to add some variation. Then I blurred each smoke and fog layer according to the DOF present. While I was making masks inside DS (oh yeah I had to revert all the surfaces back to 3DL defaults to make the masks and set the render engine to 3DL) I made one for the front terrain that emerges from the water so I could darken the edge more easily where it meets the water.

    .

Awesome, Szark! Thanks for the sharing some insight into your workflow, too. BTW, who won?

Had some free time so I played with the sun sky Iray settings and came up with these two

Daz Studio Iray with postwork, but not much. ;)

    DAZ Sub Dragon

Stonemason’s Worlds Of Fantasy : Island Castle http://www.daz3d.com/worlds-of-fantasy-island-castle-1

Walkway is from, FirstBastion’s A Walk Across Water http://www.daz3d.com/a-walk-across-water

Free Hign Res terrain by Scott Hagel (no link, sorry) texture adjusted though.

Ice sheet made in Blender by using a shape in Photoshop to cut a hole, saved out as PNG. In Inkscape made the PNG shape in to a path and saved out as SVG. Imported that SVG in to Blender, converted curve in to Mesh and used the Solidify Modifier to extrude the new mesh. Applied modifier and uv unwrapped then exported to DAZ Studio and used Calida's Ice textures, again first  adjusted in Photoshop to suit my needs.

Water is Stonemason water plane made in to cube in Blender which done right preserves the uvmapping of the original mesh, used Iray Architectural shader for the water.

I got to ask,  what Vue product was used on the cliff?

  • Szark said:

I've been eyeing that one.  I tried to buy that yesterday,   but I only have Vue Complete,  the store said I need Infinite to purchase.

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

LOL funny you should mention that. When I got the link for you I noticed that and informed the Vendor and he is now in the process of fixing the information. I have Vue complete 2014 and I beta tested this set so I know it works in Complete. But you won't be able to purchase it until he has fix the information issue. I will let you know when if you want?

  • That would be great thanks.

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

    ok will do.

  • I saw this morning Mark Lawson made a comment on the cornucopia forum regarding the issue.

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

yeah he told me he had, haven't seen it myself. We converse via FB.

  • Thanks for mentioning it to him!

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634
