Castle Dungeon Portals do nothing Iray

For those who have purchased this, are the portals supposed to act as light sources?  How?  They do nothing.  The flames act as a light source.  The portals do not.  And I'm not even talking about the light rays in the promo images.  I'm talking about emitting light AT ALL.

  • This set http://www.daz3d.com/castle-dungeon ? I don't see any light-emitters, other than the torches, in the promo images - the god-rays are coming from external light shinging in though openings.

Do you have the set?  There are emitting surfaces called "Portals" that are emitters.  No matter how high I set them, no light enters the inside of the set.  It doesn't matter if I turn on 2 sided light setting.  It would be nice to contact the set designers directly.

Portals are not light emitters, they are aids to help speed up rendering interiors with exterior lightsources, although it may not always be helpful..

So if those 'portals' are setup as light emitters, then they are just that... lightsources... I don't have this set, so I can't check. I don't see a mention of options for 'godrays' on the product page, so not sure of settings are included for that. Basically it would require some 'atmopsheric' settings to get that done. (There are some  tricks to emulate that, as I am experimenting with that to get those particles visible in light beams....)

So I would better off creating planes, placing them right next to the windows, and making them emissive?  At least I could get some "exterior lighting" to shine through.  Thanks for the link, though she's not exactly correct saying there is no way to create godrays in 3DL.  Omnifreaker's uber volume effects, which come with DS will do that.

  • Planes, spotlights, or a distant light are all options.

AFAIK, Omnifreaker's uber volume is for 3DL, not Iray. There are product(s) in the store to create the ray effects, but I don't have any. I just try my luck with the method as described in sickleyield's tutorial.....
